Dr Ambika takes a close look at the range of ZING toothpastes on offer

ZING toothpastes offer a refreshing twist on your daily brushing routine, with four clean, modern flavours. There’s a classic mint for purists, and three lighter, fruitier options—soft lemon, soft peach, and apple & kiwi—for anyone after something a bit different.

They’ve been a hit in our household—and that’s no easy feat with two dentists and two children to impress!

It’s more than a pretty tube: ZING is packed with hardworking ingredients that actively support healthy teeth and gums. Containing both fluoride and hydroxyapatite, it will strengthen enamel, fight decay, and reduce sensitivity.

I really enjoyed the clean, fresh feeling ZING leaves behind. They passed the taste test with my children too, with soft lemon quickly becoming a firm favourite. The toothpastes are suitable for the whole family (recommended for children over 7), though it’s worth reminding kids not to swallow them—as they really do smell and taste as good as they sound!

Eco-conscious and proudly made in the UK, ZING toothpastes are vegan, cruelty-free, and come in fully recyclable tubes.

Yes, they are more expensive than your average supermarket brand—but if you’re looking to upgrade your bathroom shelf with something effective, and great-tasting, ZING is well worth a try. Use code MPD10 for 10% off.

What’s the deal with ZING Toothpastes?

ZING toothpaste is a well-formulated, thoughtful alternative to the mass-produced supermarket brands we’re all familiar with. It doesn’t aim to be the cheapest option on the shelf—instead, it focuses on using quality, clinically-proven ingredients that support long-term oral health.

As a dentist, I appreciate that all ZING toothpastes offer effective cavity prevention and enamel repair, with the added benefit of the enzyme papain to help break down surface stains. All this with fun flavours and a non abrasive formula makes it gentle and safe for daily use.

What sets ZING apart isn’t just its formulation, but its approach. There are no unnecessary additives – no dyes, no titanium dioxide, no animal fats, and no SLS – meaning their toothpastes are gentle and non-irritant.

Zing toothpaste review

ZING toothpastes are vegan, cruelty-free, and comes in fully recyclable tubes, all made in the UK. It’s clearly designed with both people and the planet in mind, which is a refreshing change from some of the ‘big brand’ products on the market.

It might be priced a little higher than your average toothpaste, but for a product that looks better, tastes better, and works better.

I’d say it’s a smart, health-conscious upgrade.

ZING Toothpaste Review: Flavours 7/10

ZING offers four flavour options: The Original Mint, plus three fruitier alternatives—Soft Lemon, Soft Peach, and Apple & Kiwi.

Zing toothpaste review

I’ve got to say, all three of the non-minty flavours tasted and smelled great. They’re sweet (though sugar-free) and don’t have a mint base, which can feel a little unusual if you’re used to that typical post-brush minty freshness.

Personally, I prefer a classic minty toothpaste, so the original mint suits me best. That said, the fruity options were a hit with my children—especially my eight-year-old son, who loves the lemon flavour—and even guests who’ve stayed over have commented on how fun and different they are.

If you or a family member aren’t keen on mint, these could be a great alternative. They add a bit of variety to the brushing routine without compromising on that essential clean, fresh-mouth feel.

ZING Toothpaste Review: Cleaning Performance 8/10

ZING does a solid job cleaning your teeth day to day, offering a thorough yet gentle clean.

It’s not very foamy, which is expected since it’s free from SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate). Without SLS, your mouth feels more comfortable—no dryness or irritation—which is a real bonus if you have a sensitive mouth or find some toothpastes harsh.

I tested the full ZING range, brushing twice daily with my electric toothbrush. Using disclosing tablets to check for leftover plaque, I was pleased to see my teeth were really clean.

Breath freshness lasted well after brushing, comparable to other toothpastes I use regularly, and I didn’t experience any sensitivity or discomfort afterward.

ZING Toothpaste Review: Key Ingredients 9/10

The ingredient list is where ZING really zings! As a dentist, I’m genuinely impressed—it contains everything I’d want in a toothpaste, and I’d confidently recommend it to patients.

Fluoride AND Hydroxyapatite

What sets ZING apart is that it includes both fluoride and hydroxyapatite. With 1450 ppm fluoride—the recommended amount for adults and children aged 3 and over—it helps strengthen enamel and protect against tooth decay.

Hydroxyapatite, meanwhile, supports remineralisation and helps prevent sensitivity by filling microscopic holes in the enamel surface. (See recommended hydroxyapatite toothpastes)

Zing toothpaste review

I often get asked about fluoride-free options, and in those cases, I usually recommend alternating a fluoride toothpaste with one that contains hydroxyapatite, so patients can still benefit from both.

The beauty of ZING is that it combines both ingredients in one formula—making it a brilliant all-rounder that’s safe and effective for twice-daily use, without the need to compromise.

Papain

ZING also includes papain—a natural, non-abrasive enzyme that works to break down surface stains from things like tea, coffee, and wine. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it whitens teeth, but it does a good job at lifting everyday stains without the harshness of some whitening pastes. With its low abrasivity, it’s safe to use daily. For deeper staining, though, you’re still best off seeing your dentist for a hygiene clean or professional whitening.

SLS Free and Titanium Oxide Free

It’s free from sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), a common foaming agent that can irritate sensitive mouths. For those prone to mouth ulcers or general sensitivity, this gentler formula is a real plus.

ZING toothpastes are a clear gel rather than the usual opaque white paste. That’s because they’re free from titanium dioxide—a pigment often added to toothpaste purely for cosmetic reasons. Titanium dioxide doesn’t offer any oral health benefits, so ZING leaves it out in favour of a cleaner, simpler formula. The result is a gel that looks different but still delivers excellent performance where it counts.

ZING Toothpaste Review: Packaging 8/10

The packaging is cool—ZING definitely looks like a premium product. The tubes have a fresh, clean aesthetic, with pale pastel colours that reflect the flavours inside. It’s light, modern, and feels very current, especially compared to some of the more clinical or dated-looking options out there.

The branding is clear and direct, which I like, and the whole look feels fun without being gimmicky. The fact that the tubes didn’t come in individual boxes is also a plus in my book—it cuts down on unnecessary packaging and waste. The 100% recyclable tubes are another eco-conscious touch, and they’re well-designed: easy to squeeze, reseal, and store.

Zing toothpaste review

ZING gets the balance just right—attractive enough to leave out on the bathroom shelf, but still functional and thoughtfully made.

ZING Toothpaste Review: Cost 6/10

ZING toothpaste does sit at the more premium end of the scale, priced at £12.99 for a 75ml tube. That’s certainly more than your typical high street toothpaste—but when you consider the quality of ingredients, the fact it’s made in the UK, SLS-free, cruelty-free, and comes in fully recyclable packaging, the higher price is understandable.

At the time of writing, ZING is offering free shipping, and you can use the discount code MPD10 for an extra 10% off. They also sell bundles, which bring the cost down slightly per tube and make it a bit more affordable if you’re buying for the whole family or trying all the flavours.

It’s tough for smaller brands to compete with the pricing power of big names like Colgate or Oral-B, but if you’re looking to support a thoughtful, eco-conscious company—and want a toothpaste that performs well without the harsh ingredients—ZING is a worthy option.

Who Is ZING Toothpaste For?

ZING toothpaste is a great choice for those who want the best from their toothpaste, valuing effective, dentist-approved ingredients like fluoride and hydroxyapatite in their oral care. Plus, it’s gentle enough for sensitive mouths as it’s free from SLS, a common irritant in many toothpastes.

With four flavours to choose from—including three fruity, non-minty options—it’s also a fun choice for families, children over 7, or anyone who finds traditional mint toothpastes too harsh or boring. If you’re trying to encourage kids to brush or just want to shake things up for yourself, the flavour variety really helps.

It’s also a great fit for those who are eco-conscious. The tubes are 100% recyclable and it’s made in the UK, While it’s not the cheapest option, it’s perfect for people who are happy to spend a little more for a well-thought-out product that does a great job!
